Tactical winter socks by PROTECTOR® are functional socks built for the cold season. They are chosen by soldiers, rescuers, police officers, and hikers. Merino wool and full terry cushioning retain heat, ventilation zones provide thermoregulation, and elastic support keeps the sock from shifting and bunching into folds that rub the skin.
How to choose tactical socks for winter?
When choosing winter tactical socks, consider the conditions you will use them in and your activity level. On long marches, fast moisture wicking away from the foot is especially important. If you have to stay almost motionless for long periods on duty, look for insulation as well.
For tactical footwear, choose socks that rise above the top of the boot. That way, the friction falls on the fabric rather than on your skin. The sock should fit snugly without squeezing or bunching up.
If you need compression, check out MidDry+ for spring and fall from the TonusUp® Collection. They are designed for cool conditions. The TonusUp® system provides moderate compression, supports the leg muscles during physical activity, and helps improve blood circulation.
What should winter tactical socks be like?
Tactical winter socks should retain heat, wick away moisture, and stay free of folds inside your boots. In the winter TEPMO°C® Collection, this is achieved with the following features:
- full terry cushioning creates an air layer that reduces heat loss;
- the insulated Achilles tendon area lowers the risk of injury;
- ventilation zones and channels support thermoregulation on the move;
- elastic support keeps the sock in place on the foot and prevents folds.
In the MerinoWinter model from the TEPMO°C® Collection, an invisible seam made with Seamless technology adds extra comfort in the toe area. The model works well with closed footwear, including membrane boots. Temperature range: from -20°C to +5°C (depending on activity, clothing, and footwear).
Materials of warm tactical socks
MerinoWinter warm tactical socks contain 25% merino wool, 38% acrylic, 30% polypropylene, 3% polyamide, and 4% elastane. The wool retains heat, while the synthetic components add durability and stretch. Full inner terry cushioning boosts insulation.
MidDry+ socks for spring and fall from the TonusUp® Collection are made of 90% nylon and 10% elastane. Terry cushioning runs from toe to heel, the foot and Achilles tendon area have extra insulation, and the compression is moderate.
Winter tactical socks for combat boots and active use
MerinoWinter socks cover the leg 5–8 cm above the ankle. When choosing winter tactical socks for combat boots, take the boot height into account: the socks should extend above the top edge of the boot to protect your skin from chafing.
During patrols and field work, it is important that socks stay securely in place and help keep your feet dry. Elastic support with metatarsal support prevents slipping, while ventilation zones help wick away moisture and support thermoregulation on the move.

FAQ about winter tactical socks
How are winter tactical socks different from regular winter socks?
A frequent question from our customers: “Why buy tactical winter socks if I already have a regular warm pair?”
When you have to walk in combat boots for a long time, warmth is not the only thing that matters – effective moisture wicking, a snug fit, and protection from chafing are just as important. In PROTECTOR® winter models, this comes down to the fiber blend, elastic support, and terry knit. These are exactly the features to compare when choosing between a regular and a tactical pair.
Are winter tactical socks suitable for hiking and travel?
We are also often asked: “Can I take tactical winter socks on a hiking trip?”
Yes, you can. For a winter route, choose cold-weather socks based on how intensely you will be walking and how long your stops will be. Pick the height to match your hiking boots so their collar does not touch your skin.
How to choose the right size of winter tactical socks?
Our customers ask: “How do I choose winter tactical socks that fit properly?”
Measure both feet in the afternoon or evening, from the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Go by the longer foot and pick your size from the size chart. If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller one, provided your instep is standard and your foot width is no wider than average.
Who are tactical winter socks from PROTECTOR® for?
Another common question: “Who else can benefit from tactical winter socks besides the military?”
Besides soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these socks are chosen by police officers, rescuers, security personnel, and volunteers working in the field. The models are also a good fit for hikers and anyone who spends long hours outdoors in winter. All of the brand’s models are unisex.
How to wash winter tactical socks?
Wash by hand or in a machine on a delicate cycle at up to 30°C. Do not use chlorine bleach, do not dry-clean, and do not iron. After hand washing, gently squeeze out the water without wringing and smooth the socks out. Machine spinning is fine. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
